I think it's a male ego thing and like Miss Nat said, being rejected.  Some guys think that they are gods gift to women and think they can have any woman they want.  Whenever a woman they approach who they think can't find someone better than him gets rejected by her bruises his ego.  In his mind he's saying "How dare you have the ordacity to reject me, do you know who I am?  I can have any woman I want and you were lucky enough to be approaced by me!"  That's why they throw these little temper tantrums and deal with rejection like a little child does who can't get his way.
